Things that should have been considered before voting

There is only one issue for me as I vote this year: SECURITY! Being retired, I cannot get too excited over issues such as minimum wage, the environment, education, global warming, stem-cell research, etc. Because if we fail to secure and protect this country from our enemies, the Islamic fascist terrorist, nothing else will matter, period! There is no defense against ‘suicide-bombers’ and if they show up in
America, it will severely impact all our lives, nobody will be safe anymore! This is a huge struggle and will probably last for a long time. Do not kid yourselves, this is a war that we have to win. We cannot count on the 1.4 billion peace loving Muslims to do it for us, as a matter of fact. I wonder sometimes if they care who wins since we have gotten nothing but lip service from then since 9-11-2001.

When it comes to voting now, I firmly believe that the Democrats and Republicans can bicker and fight over all these other issues and vote as they see fit. But when it comes to
America’s security, I expect them to be Americans first and members of political parties second. All I have seen from the Democrats over the last few years is lock-step voting against any law or bill that would strengthen our security and safety when it comes up for a vote in Congress. Be it the Patriot Act, the NSA Surveillance program, the Military Commissions Act, the border security bill or anything else dealing with our security. If the Democrats cannot find it in their hearts to vote ‘For’ such bills, they could simply abstain from voting, but rather choose to vote against our national security by voting ‘No.’ It has gotten to a point that the Democrats will say they support a national security bill while they are voting against it.

But now that they want my vote, they tell me that it is time for change and to vote Democrat over Republican. Mind you, they have no plan, no specifics, and fail to speak how they vote. They offer NOTHING but change for the sake of change.

I cannot buy that empty argument, in fact it is insulting to me!  Even if I expected more from the Republicans as the party in power and majority in both houses in the past few years, they at least tried and passed some bills in favor of securing this country. The Democrats have done nothing, brought nothing to the debate and will not even tell what they will do when they become a majority in the House or Senate.

The choice should be clear for rational thinking people, common sense should tell them that the slogan “Change for the sake of change” is an insult and plainly not acceptable! I take ‘something’ (Republicans) over ‘nothing’ (Democrats) anytime. I like to believe Americans are too smart to fall for these tactics.

One Response to Things that should have been considered before voting

  1. politisense says:

Much of America’s youth is not encouraged to think for themselves. I see this in school work, inter-personal communication, and other places. The media knows that people will believe what they read, so they can bend minds the direction that suits them. The same people that were encouraged to “question authority” are also taught to not question the media. Everyone should be encouraged to think for themselves, but this isn’t happening. Our system is broken and won’t fix itself.
